Resin bonded surfacing – which is sometimes referred to as scatter coat – involves the application of a coloured, two-part polyurethane resin directly onto a prepared, solid surface. This resin is then spread evenly across the prepared surface using a notched squeegee, which ensures even coverage.
Once the resin is applied, the selected dried aggregate is scattered over the uncured and tacky resin surface by hand. Once the correct, uniform coverage has been achieved, the surface is left to cure – preferably overnight. Any excess aggregate which has failed to adhere to the resin is swept clear and removed.
This resin can be laid over concrete or asphalt. This means that your new resin bonded surface can simply be overlaid over your existing surface, negating the need for excavation.
A resin bonded driveway is the perfect low cost and low maintenance solution
Resin bonded surfacing is a very cost-effective way of improving the appearance of tired-looking driveways. Any cost is actually often offset by the increase in the value of your property. Resin-bonded surfaces have been used extensively for public areas and footpaths in and around the London Olympic park. This is also an ideal solution for roadways, footpaths, car parks, access ramps, gardens, hard landscaping and large open spaces.
Such driveways have an exceptional anti-slip value, and a pleasing natural appearance. You can order your new surfacing in a variety of colours and blends. Installation is largely non-intrusive, silent and odour-free. You’ll be able to walk on your resin bonded driveway four hours after installation, and drive your vehicle onto it within eight hours.
Note that resin bonded surfacing is not permeable, but it does offer the following additional benefits:
- Excellent value-for-money
- No weeds
- Low maintenance
- Suitable for listed buildings
- Highly durable
- Uses natural aggregate
